Also, my next point. Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Server are different. The server version has no GUI and uses a different kernel that has been tweaked for server type functions. Like anything, its not easy at first but its really neat and fun stuff to learn. Just have patience. If you want to do a media server, use Plex.
